After working at Hacksmith Industries, I’ve learned a couple of lessons:
- Youtubers in the maker-sphere deserve a lot of respect because their content is dependent on lots of manual labour. Imagine how easy it is to make podcasts or reaction channels as opposed to a maker channel
- The video and engineering team need to gel effortlessly for the system to work, otherwise all engineers should just record their own stuff
- It’s worth starting a channel under your name instead of a company name because you become the brand and it gives you space to change your niche. Ie. easy for Michael Reaves to start streaming but probably not Stuff Made Here.
- Youtubers often get stuck in “shot paralysis” and tunnel vision on what is shown on the camera. Composure and story remain the most important parts of a Youtube video.
